How To Avoid An Injury or Fatal Baby Monitor accident

After several fatal and injury accidents among infants and toddlers challenging baby monitors, the U.S. Consumer product protection Commission, Cpsc, recently recalled nearly two million of the devices distributed by Summer baby amid concerns by parents, personal injury lawyers, and protection advocates, reported Cbs8.com in San Diego, California.

Although the Cpsc has received reports of at least seven baby and toddler fatalities since 2004, the two most modern cases involved monitors distributed by Rhode Island enterprise Summer baby and manufactured in China. In November 2010, a 6-month-old South Carolina boy became entangled in the cord of a Summer baby video baby monitor that had been placed on his changing table and was strangled. A similar incident occurred last March when a 10-month-old girl from Washington, D.C. Pulled down a monitor that had been placed on the rail of her crib.

In 2009, the Cpsc reported 77,300 injuries that required an urgency room visit for children under the age of five. While many of these injuries were related with nursery products, such as car seats, cribs, and strollers, the majority of them were attributed to falls. Many residents, protection advocates, and personal injury lawyers in Los Angeles, California have not forgotten the toddler who fell from one of Staples Center's top-level luxury suites last November. Moreover, for the same age group, an average of 88 deaths occur annually.

The modern increase in injuries prompted the Cpsc to originate guidelines for avoiding fatal and injury baby monitor accidents.

-Avoid placing monitor cords within three feet of the baby.

-Immediately check the location of corded monitors, including those mounted on the wall, to make sure cords are out of arm's reach of children.

-Place cords more than three feet away from any part of the crib, bassinet, or play yard.

-Check the location of the monitor periodically; as babies grow, they may be able to reach things that they couldn't before.

-When using movement monitors, cut the risk of strangulation by ensuring that sensor cords are not loose or dangling. Check the manufacturer's instructions for installment directions.

While these devices may allow parents to watch or listen to their children from afar, properly installing them will ensure the safe monitoring for which they were intended. To ask a new product label and instructions, consumers may sense the enterprise via its website or by calling its toll-free amount at 800-462-8627.
